Jim Kersey

Obituary of Jim Kersey

James Robert Kersey passed away peacefully at Strathmere Lodge, Strathroy on October 11th, 2024, two days shy of his 78th birthday.

Jim was born October 13th, 1946 to Tobias and Dorothy Kersey (Smith) at the “Old Hospital” in Strathroy and was raised with his older sister Jean (Porteous).  During his youth he played ball and hockey, swam in the town pool and attended Colborne Street Public School as well as S.D.C.I.  After high school, Jim worked for a short time at Simpson’s in both London and Toronto but returned to work in the family business, Kerseys Mens Wear, eventually taking it over from his father.  He continued to work there until his retirement in 2006.

Jim was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, businessman, friend, uncle, Mason, Shriner, singer, die hard Jays and Leafs fan, a lover of Grand Bend, Florida and Golden Retrievers.  He loved Strathroy, it’s people and his store.

Along with his sister, Jim is survived by his wife Kathleen (O’Neill) of 49 years, his daughters Jacqueline and Stephanie, five grandchildren as well as two nieces and beloved dog “Remy”.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. G. Perkin, Dr. P. Vandewalle, the Alzheimer Society and the entire staff at Strathmere Lodge.  During Jim’s lifetime, he was extremely fortunate to be cared for by the late Dr. M. Sharpe and his dear friend, the late Dr. D. Sanders.  For this we are extremely thankful.  There are no words to describe the appreciation for the unconditional love and unwavering support demonstrated by Steph, Brent, Finn and Grady.  It will never be forgotten.

A private family graveside service will be held.  Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jim are asked to consider Strathmere Lodge or the Alzheimer Society.  Share a memory at www.strathroyfuneralhome.com
